Working horses Sessions out of the training ring

‘Alta Escuela’ riding courses

These too are progressive: the rider evolves with their horses over the lessons, under the careful authority of Mr. Rivera.

They learn to know each other step by step through simples exercises (walk, trot, canter) until they both succeed in delivering all figures of the ‘Alta Escuela’ (half-pass, passage, piaffe, Spanish walk…).

All of this is not built in a day: each rider/horse couple has their own rhythm according to their abilities.

But in order to write each chapter of their horse’s life, one must have courage, patience and a lot of humility…

“In life, on a horse or on foot, you must look ahead but also behind: ahead in order to see what’s left, and behind to realize what you accomplished thus far. Only then will you feel the glory of triumph”. Quote from the book of Luis Ramos-Paul “Historias, Leyendas y Cuentos Ecuestres.”

The breaking-in of young horses:

When the breaking-in begins, young horses from stables are gently but firmly worked on the lunge. Then, when they are used to obeying the voice and when they have found a balance at all paces and are confident they are ridden by a rider-held lunge which will be gradually released.

Young horses are first worked in the indoor ring, and then outdoors in the great yard.

The actual breaking-in takes about three months and depends on the horse’s character, and abilities. The owner too can have many purposes for their horse, from horseback excursions to ‘Alta Escuela’ riding courses.

Very often in Buissonville we hear Mr. Rivera telling us:

“Every horse is a book whose history we write one page at a time. The breaking-in is the first chapter … One of the most important, because it determines the other ones …”.

Sale of horses :

Caballos Angel Rivera is also dedicated to selling horses whose owners want to separate themselves from.

Either by lack of time or money, health problems, adolescents at school… : some wish to find a solution for their horse, sometimes urgently.

An agreement can be concluded between the owner and Mr. Rivera, who will then analyse the problem and find a new buyer for the greatest happiness of all.
